Take a break from the beta by breaking the beta! Beta Break turns any boulder problem into a competitive game with your climbing friends.
Setup is Easy…

HEALTH
Start with 3 Health
We experimented with more starting health, but the game simply lasted longer than our forearms could handle.

CHOOSE THE PROBLEM
Suggested: v0 – v3
Choose a boulder problem that you will all climb. I know v0-v3 sounds easy, but believe us, the game gets difficult fast.

STARTING EFFECTS
Beta card + Break card
Randomly choose a Beta card and a Break card to be the first active effects. Place these cards side-by-side, faceup.

Play the game
Shuffle First
Shuffle the deck and place it face-down. This is the Draw pile. You are now ready to play Beta Break. Simply draw a card and climb.

Draw a Card
The Climber
The player drawing the card becomes The Climber for the turn. The Climber, well, climbs the problem.

Read the Card
And Read the Route
The Climber follows the card’s effect. If the drawn card is a Beta or Break card, that becomes the active card of its type. All send attempts must honor this effect until a new Beta or Break card is drawn to replace the active card of its type.

Attempt the Send
You Get One Chance
The Climber attempts to send the problem. Fail, and lose one health

The Next Climber
Draw a Card or Steal the Send
The next player takes their turn. If the previous player failed their send, the new player can elect to Steal the Send. Fail, and lose one health. But succeed, and GAIN one health.
